False Creek Marine Gas Station Gets a Reprieve
The Vancouver Sun reported this morning that the False Creek marine gas station will get a reprieve until the end of March. It was originally scheduled to be closed February 13th but owners Imperial Oil have extended the deadline to allow additional time to find a new owner for the station.
The station has been operated for 22 years by Allan Keefe and he is in discussions with Imperial Oil to take over the False Creek station. It appears that Imperial Oil's concerns about any ongoing liability have held up the deal.
Keefer is quoted in the Sun article as saying:
"My pockets aren't deep enough to give [Imperial] comfort that if there was an incident 20 years from now as a result of operations there that they wouldn't come back at Imperial,"
There are great concerns that with the nearest marine gas station in Coal Harbour hundreds of False Creek boat owners will fill their tanks from jerry cans and most likely spill fuel into the Creek.
