Granville Island in the Globe and Mail

Globe and Mail writer Trevor Brody wrote at rather scathing piece on Friday (I just found it today) regarding the renewal plans that are underway for Granville Island. Take a look and let me know what you think.

Well, I do thing the Granville Island needs work.  The idea of nightlife and movie theatre makes sense if you want people there day and night.  Mind you, the people who live there along the edges might have a bit of problem with the noise levels.  However, the first thing they should do is eliminate all vehicles on the island (except for commercial delivery, etc.).   Increase the transit to the island (all types:  boat, bus, tram, etc..  Change some of those parking garages into green space.

Jackie, I have often thought about banning traffic from the island and I like the idea philosophically but I just don't think it is practical yet. There would have to be some large parkig facility nearby and I don't know where they would put it.

I was down there this morning in the car and there were already SO many cars parked on the island. I do like the idea of little park in the centre of the island. No tmany people use the space at the mound.

As to more entertainment options on theIsland I will reserve opinion for now, but I am interested to see what ideas they come up with.
