South East False Creek Outdoor Furniture
I went for a run along the seawall yesterday and came back thnking about how great the outdoor furniture is along the new part of the seawall there (not to mention thnking tjat I have not been doing enouh exercise lately). Not 2 hours after I got home the Vancovuer Courier arrived on my step with a cover story on that very subject and the design of the outdoor spaces in general.
Like most Vancouver Courier cover stories I found it to be far too long, but the online version does include a link to a nice slide show of photos of South East FalseCreek. I don't carry a camera with me when I run.
What really struck me along there was the chairs (which apparently swivel), the giant loungers and the giant cleats, but the area also includes "custom-designed seating, warm wooden touches, <and> solar-powered compacting trash cans". They really make for a visually interesting area and I can see many areas that will encourage people to pause and interact with the space, the environment and the neighbourhood.
If you haven't taken a walk, run, ride or roll along this newest section of the seawall I would recommend that you check it out this summer. The next week is supposed to be nice.
