Out for Sunday Dinner with the Family in Vancouver: The Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company

Kids Making Pizza at the Vancouver Rocky Mountain Flatbread CompanyAfter a busy weekend with Little Mountain Little League opening day and a lot of work for me the family was ready for an easy dinner out. We were considering our latest favourite sushi place (watch for an upcoming post on this one), but the client I was out with reminded me of the old Bread Garden location (their 1st) on W. 1st in Kitsilano. It is now home to the Vancouver location of the Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company. The original location of the Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company is a little closer to the Rocky Mountains in Canmore, Alberta.

The old Bread Garden location had been pretty empty in recent years so we were surprised to be asked upon out arrival if we had a reservation. We did not, but they had a table for the 5 of us nice and close to the big brick oven, although sadly away from the TVs showing the hockey games. Apparently every Sunday and Monday are Family Days at the to Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company where kids (who are already offered a little play area) are able to make their own pizzas. Wow were my 4 and 7 year old excited. The got to go into the kitchen and kneed and roll the dough before they picked out their ingredients (one pepperoni and mango and one chicken and mango please) and watch as it is slide into the clay wood-fired oven. Just a few minuted later it was delivered straight to the table.

Needless to say almost every table was full of kids. I would definitely recommend a reservation for an early Sunday dinner. The food was excellent and the whole place just has a great feel to it. They also source as many ingredients locally as possible (not sure about those Mangoes) including organic meats.

As you might have gathered they are a restaurant with a conscience and do their bit to support responsible entrepreneurship. If you are in Kits looking for some good, flat crust pizza then I would heatedly recommend stopping in to see the friendly folks at the Vancouver location of the Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company.
