Greater Vancouver's Watering Restrictions Start June 1st

Vancouver sprinlerYes, its here already. Along with our first stretch of decent weather comes the Greater Vancouver Regional District's (GVRD) watering restrictions. From June 1 - September 30th you can only water your lawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays if you have an even numbered address and on Thursdays and Sundays if you have a odd numbered address. And one those days you can only water your lawn in the morning (4 - 9am) or the evening (7 - 10pm). They say that an established lawn only needs 2.5cm (1inch) of water every week. Or if this is all just too much for you to worry about, and you don't a gardener to worry about it for you, just let the grass turn yellow. It will come back nice and green come September. But whatever you do make sure you are not watering the street or the sidewalk.

UPDATE: I just noticed that this post from last summer has been getting a lot of views, but due the change from GVRD to Metro Vancouver the link was dead. Well now it is no longer dead. I gave it CPR and it is back up. Happy watering, or just let it die, your neighbours might hate the look, but the earth wil thank you.
