Friday Fun: Exploding Hot Water Tanks, Crafts, and Giving on a Sunny Day in November
Earlier this week in the Raincity Guide out of Seattle I read a story about exploding hot water tanks. Actually they seem to call them "water heaters" in the U.S. I had never heard this before. I had also never heard that there is an urban myth that a faulty hot water tank can explode and shoot through the roof of a house like a rocket. Who knew? It is well known enough that the Mythbusters tested it on their TV show. You should be able to find the video clip there. If it is not right there just search for it in the top left of the screen. It seems from their tests that it is POSSIBLE, but only if ALL the safety features of the tank are removed. So the moral of the story is, don't remove all the safety features of your water tank.
Homes for the Holidays is a fundraiser for the Kids Help Phone. And if you are looking to do your holiday shopping without stepping foot in those horribly crowded malls then check out some of the great craft fairs, or bazaars as they call them, on the I Heart Crafts blog. You will not find Grandma's crocheting here, but rather hip handcrafted items by local artisans.
In closing it was another amazing day in Vancouver. It really seems that winter has arrived as temps were below freezing overnight in most areas and we had a good thick frost on the ground this morning.
