Fun On Friday in Vancouver: Skiing into winter, the Christmas season, and other random stuff

If you didn't know already, Vancouver is a great city for skiers. There are few other cities in the world where you can ski less than an hour after work. And I mean on the hill schusing down the slopes. Well this week Grouse Mountain was the first of the local ski hills to open and with snow in the forecast for tomorrow Cypress Bowl opened today and Mount Seymour will be open tomorrow. Many years ago, before I went to warm and bawmy Victoria for University and had three kids Cypress was always my favourite place to sour IKEA christmas treeki. Seymour is where I learned though, at the advanced age of 10, and with my 7 year old skiing now for the second year I suspect that is where I will be this year. Maybe he'll get good enough for a run up to Whistler.

Don't forget that the aforementioned Paris Day is taking place at Granville Island tomorrow.

We are off to IKEA shortly to buy our Christmas tree. This has become a bit of a tradition for us. I would wait a week or two, but my dear wife likes to get that tree up asap (ie. the first weekend in December). The trees went on sale yesterday so I hope they have some left and lots of meatballs. We all love those Swedish Meetballs. The trees are $20, you get a coupon for $20 off a $75 or more purchase in the new year, and IKEA will donate a portion of sales to Tree Canada.

And don't forget amongst all our cospicuous consumption this time of year to think of those less fortunate and donate to those who need it most. One of the best and easiest options is an online donation to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society.
