Real Estate in Burnaby: Deer Lake Holiday Home Tour
Found this one in the paper this morning and it looks like there are some very cool houses around Deer Lake in Burnaby and the tour is supporting a really great cause. Through the Rotary Club Deer Lake resident Marguerite Kohnke has organized a tour of some great homes around the lake is support of Ovarian Cancer research at the BC Cancer Foundation. Marguerite herself is a 10 year ovarian cancer survivor and has managed talk 10 of her neighbours around the lake into opening up their homes and even decorating early for the holidays.
From the Vancouver Sun story:
The houses on the self-guided tour, says Kohnke, are a mix of heritage, mid-century modern and newer estates.
The older ones include the 1912 English Tudor-style JD Shearer House and Haddon House, a 1922 Dutch Colonial which is now a restored bed-and-breakfast.
On the modern front is the Baldwin House, a two-storey post-and-beam designed by Arthur Erickson and built right on the lake in 1965 in a "floating house" concept. It is currently being managed as a guest house by The Land Conservancy.
The Hamish Mackintosh home, designed by its namesake architect in 1962 and built in 1964, is west-coast modern with a twist, integrating Japanese influences with traditional features like its huge inglenook fireplace.
The tour will run from 10 - 4 on Sunday and tickets are $50.00 with tea or $35.00 for tour only. All proceeds in support of BC Cancer Foundation in support of ovarian cancer research and awareness. Tax receipt for $35.00 will be provided.
