Blogging on real estate and life in Metro Vancouver.

Is the 604homesblog dead?

Well, I have thought so for quite a while now and no one has cried out they they were missing me. The limitations of the version of the Community Server platform that the 604homesblog is based on plus what appeared/appears to have been a low return on investment (ROI) led me to spending more time on other aspects of my website (specifically the Vancouver home search pages, also know as IDX and VOW to those in the biz), Twitter and my Facebook fan page (please become a fan).

I am still unsure whethe I will come back to blogging and if I do where will I do that, here, or on a separate Wordpress-based blog, or on a completely redsigned and re-platformed 604homes.com.

I would love to hear your thoughts on the matter and I'll be sure to let you know where it all goes.

I'm curious what the limitations were with the platform.

Would love to have a meeting with you some time about your blogging (maybe an interview?) on Active Rain and other networks.

The biggest limitation was video. I cannot place a youtube (or any other platform) video directly into a post here.

Adding photos is not ideal either, but I could live with that.

The other issue is design which is very limited.

I'd be happy to do the interview in the New Year.

I suggest that you redesign and keep this blog. I think you can put some pictures and videos on a WordPress site.

Hi Jeremy, Thanks for the encouragement. I may just do that. I am building another site with wordpress right now and may move this one too. We'll see...

I noticed (former) blogger on your Twitter profile so had to come look...  have you started a WordPress blog?  Do you miss blogging?  Did you do the internview in the first comment.

Hi Maureen,

No not yet. I have been procrastinating. I will start a niche neighbourhood blog in the next month focusing on the neighbourhood where the Athlete's Village is for the Winter Olympics.

And no, no interview. They never contacted me again.

Thanks for your comment. How is blogging working out for you?

I am getting more and more leads from blogging wish there were more closings though.  I am not looking for a reason to quit blogging, just see people saying USE a Facebook Fan page or USE XYZ instead of a blog.  Of course they are selling XYZ or a custom designed XYZ page.

Hi Matt, I too am at a crossroads with my blogging. I don't know where to turn. Still investigating. Scrap the whole P2? Maybe. Gosh at the time invested. The wordpress sites are so sharp and crisp and it looks like that is where things are going. Any thoughts?

Hi Matt, nice to meet you.  Blogging takes both a passion and a commitment.  It's not cut out for everyone but I've noticed that I do it in waves.  I blog, then I'm silent, blog, silent.

I do know lots of people that outsource their blog posts.

However, a blog encourages communication and say's "I'm listening and accessible", so in the real estate industry blogging is a must.  A difficult blogging platform can really cause frustration.  WordPress seems to be the platform that is used with the greatest simplicity.

I'm happy to lend some advice with the blog if you like.

Sincerely,

Jim Adams - CEO
